Precision-cut foam over a colored base layer. Empty slots show the base color — a clear signal something is missing.

What is shadow foam

Two layers. One signal.

Shadow foam is a two-layer system: a solid base foam in one color, with a precision-cut top layer in a contrasting color. Each cutout traces the exact perimeter of an object.

When every tool, lens, or instrument is seated, the insert reads as a uniform surface. When something is missing, the base color shows through — immediately, unmistakably.

Used by field technicians, armorers, surgical teams, and photographers who need to know — at a glance — that nothing has been left behind.

How it works

From photo to finished insert

01

Photograph your case

Open your case or drawer on a flat surface. Drop a US quarter into each of the 4 inside corners, flat and snug against the walls — these are your scale references. Shoot straight down from directly above, as far back as your space allows.

02

Tap your quarters

In the app, tap each corner quarter to detect it. Profoama traces the drawer edges from the coins, measures exact dimensions, and corrects for camera angle automatically — no corner tapping or manual measuring.

03

AI segments your objects

The AI identifies each item in the case and generates its exact perimeter. Review the segments and adjust any that need refinement.

04

Approve your layout

Drag and drop objects to arrange them in the foam space. When the layout is right, approve it. Your design is locked.

05

We cut and ship

Profoama produces your insert — precision-cut black cut foam over a colored base foam. Every slot reveals the base color when empty, giving you instant visual inventory.

Photo guidance

The photo determines the accuracy of your insert

Profoama measures your objects from a single photograph. Perspective, lighting, and placement of the scale markers all affect the result. Take two minutes to get this right.

DO

Shoot straight down — directly overhead, as far back as space allows

Quarters fully flat and against the inside case or drawer corners — not overlapping the case edge or obscured by objects

Even, diffused lighting — no harsh shadows crossing the interior

All objects fully inside the case boundary

At least 8mm (~5/16 in) of gap between objects — tight clusters are harder to segment and cut cleanly

AVOID

Shooting at an angle — foreshortens objects and skews dimensions

Quarters obscured, tilted, not pushed into the corners, or partially outside the frame

Harsh single-source light casting deep shadows across tools

Objects overlapping the case edge or each other

Five-step animated guide to photographing your case for Profoama: pull the drawer out, set up the light, drop a US quarter into each corner as scale references, hold your phone level overhead, then frame and capture.

The material

XLPE — chosen for a reason

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is a closed-cell foam used in aviation tooling, military equipment cases, and medical instrument trays. It doesn't compress permanently, doesn't absorb water, and holds its shape after years of daily use.

Resilient with a smooth, pleasant feel

Good thermal insulator

Excellent strength and shock absorption

Low water absorption

Impervious to mildew, mold, rot, and bacteria

Excellent chemical resistance

Nontoxic — contains no CFCs, HCFCs, or hydrocarbon blowing agents
